OLD BUSINESS
Constitution Committee:
I. Jonathan Hornick reported from EVO that the Y 1926 minutes and folder could be copied @ $.25 per page. Mentioned that Ken Wachtell gave him bi-law folder which he would review for next meeting
II Motion on floor to change the bi-laws
“ At the last meeting, a proposal to lower the required quorum to 10 members was defeated. A new motion, thought to be a less drastic change, was proposed to make the quorum 15% of the members-in-good-standing instead of the 20% of paid members as the by-laws currently require.
PRO: It has become increasingly difficult to get a quorum at meetings and at some point it may hinder the operation of the Society.
CON: This is a major change of Society operations and history. Fewer members for a quorum mean a small group of members can control the society, its direction and finances with less oversight.”
Mitchell Greene – stated that changing from 20% to 15% of the 75 fully paid members or individuals was correct to insure the number of people to conduct business. He also felt that people’s homes were better than the Workman’s Circle.
Sandy Hornick agreed about people’s homes.
Ron Jordan also approved of the home meetings and said the deli was nice. He, too, felt that the 20% should be changed to 15%.
Daniel Cantor supported Ron Jordan concerning the 15% but also said the more people should come to meetings. He stated that the resolution was a good one..
Scott Berman asked for the resolution to be re-read and felt that it should be e-mailed.
David Berman felt that 20% was not unreasonable and that the 15% was not that great a difference.
Arthur Epstein wanted to know who paid and who did not. He was enlightened by Phil Cantor.
Linda Hornick stated that no one would agree even if they were from same family.
Scott Berman called the vote
Vote taken - 23 for the motion 3 against the motion
Motion – to make the quorum 15% of members-in-good-standing –
PASSED
Cemetary –
Arthur Epstein asked about the bills on plots with perpetual care in Mt. Judah and Ron Jordan said he would inquire
Casino Night-
Aaron Hornick discussed a poker night as a Casino night might be too expensive to set up. Estimate $350-500 The place would be the Hornick basement and he would cover it with the police. Chips would be $6/100.
Danny Hornick wanted NO outsiders and admission would be $20 for family members. It would be held in May or June. A date of Sunday, June 24, 2007 was proposed .
